Upholstery Cleaning at a Dunedin Clubhouse After Hurricane Helene

Upholstery Cleaning at a Dunedin Clubhouse After Hurricane Helene

Barbara Nagy • July 21, 2026

When Hurricane Helene pushed floodwater through a Dunedin community complex, the trouble did not end once the water dried. After the rebuild wrapped up, the clubhouse furniture sat buried under a thick gray layer of construction dust. That is where our commercial upholstery cleaning team came in. Here is how we brought a dusty, tired lounge back to life.

The Call: A Clubhouse Covered in Construction Dust

The entire complex had gone underwater during Hurricane Helene, and the clubhouse took a real beating. By the time crews finished rebuilding, every surface wore a film of fine dust. The property team knew this was more than a quick wipe-down. The furniture needed a deep, careful clean.

Construction dust is sneaky stuff. It drifts into every crack and settles deep into fabric, wood grain, and woven wicker. The structure itself had already been handled during the water damage restoration phase, so our focus was the contents: sofas, armchairs, cushions, and a whole room full of wicker.

After a building floods, the EPA recommends that soft, porous items be cleaned and fully dried by qualified pros before people use the space again. We held this job to that same standard.

Why Wicker and Cushions Are Tricky to Clean

Wicker looks charming, but it is one of the toughest furniture types to clean well. Those tight woven strands trap dust in hundreds of tiny grooves, and you cannot just scrub them without risking damage. Cushions and pillows hide grit deep in the fill, too. Patience matters here.

Pro tip for wicker

Never soak wicker to clean it. Too much water can weaken the weave and warp the frame. Gentle, low-moisture cleaning is the safer path.

A few things made this one a careful job:

  • Woven wicker frames held fine dust in every gap and joint.
  • Chair cushions, sofa cushions, and throw pillows had grit worked into the fabric.
  • Wood frames needed a soft touch so the finish stayed intact.

How Our Team Cleaned Every Piece

We treated each piece by what it was made of, following IICRC methods for professional upholstery cleaning. Wicker got detailed vacuuming and careful hand attention. Cushions and pillows were cleaned with hot water extraction. Wood frames were wiped down so nothing was left dull or scratched.

We clean for both homes and businesses, so a big commercial job like this fits right into our week. It sits alongside single armchairs and full commercial carpet cleaning projects. We worked piece by piece, using soft brushes and low-moisture cleaning to reach into the weave without soaking it. Every cushion was cleaned, dried, and checked before it went back in place.

The Result: A Lounge Ready for Residents Again

By the end, the clubhouse looked like a place people would actually want to sit in again. The wicker was clean and bright. The cushions felt fresh. The gray film of dust was gone for good, and the property team could not have been happier.

This was not our first detailed cleaning project, and it will not be our last. We have revived boat carpet and upholstery, tackled a multi-floor condo flood in Clearwater Beach, and even refreshed classroom rugs for a local school. Every space is different. The goal never changes: hand back a room that feels clean, cared for, and ready to use.
